Launched in 2026, the MBZUAI AI Reach (AIr) – High School Summer Research Program is an immersive introduction to artificial intelligence designed for outstanding high school students from around the world. The program offers a unique opportunity to explore AI research, learn directly from world-class faculty, and experience life at the world’s first AI-focused research university.

The 2026 AIr High School Summer Research Program will take place from Sunday, June 14 to Friday, June 26, 2026, at MBZUAI’s Abu Dhabi campus.

AIr is designed to inspire the next generation of AI innovators by combining hands-on learning, mentorship, and cultural exchange in a dynamic research environment. This program offers fully-funded opportunities for exceptional students.

Program details

  • A two-week, on-campus immersive experience at MBZUAI in Abu Dhabi

Since its launch, MBZUAI’s programs have attracted highly motivated students globally and are known for their selective admissions and enriching academic environment.

Selected students will engage in a carefully curated program that blends learning, exploration, and discovery, including:

  • Introductory sessions in key AI areas such as machine learning, computer vision, natural language processing, and robotics
  • Hands-on mini-projects and challenges designed specifically for high school learners
  • Talks and panels with AI researchers on real-world applications of AI
  • Campus tours and insight into university life at MBZUAI
  • Team presentations and a final showcase at the conclusion of the program

No prior research experience is required—curiosity, motivation, and an interest in technology are key.

Participants will explore the foundations of artificial intelligence through age-appropriate, engaging content. Learning areas may include:

The B.Sc. in Artificial Intelligence is designed by industry for industry, built for students who want to lead, innovate, and push boundaries. It offers two distinct streams:

Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence (Business)

Ideal for aspiring entrepreneurs and future AI‑driven leaders who want to use AI to transform industries.

  • AI for business, strategy and decision-making

Application requirements

Applications for the 2026 AIr High School Program will open on February 1, 2026.

Eligibility

  • High school students typically aged 16–18
  • Strong academic standing, particularly in STEM subjects
  • Demonstrated interest in artificial intelligence, technology, or related fields

 

Required documentation

Proof of English proficiency through one of the following:

  • IELTS Academic: minimum overall score of 6.5
  • TOEFL iBT: minimum score of 90
  • PTE Academic: minimum overall score of 60
  • Cambridge C1 Advanced: minimum score of 180
  • Cambridge C2 Proficiency: minimum score of 200
  • Duolingo English Test: minimum score of 120
    • Accepted only where access to other tests is limited
  • Mandatory interview required
  • OR an official school letter confirming English as the medium of instruction

All exams must be taken at an approved physical test center. Home Edition exams are not accepted.

  • Valid color passport copy (minimum one-year validity)

Personal statement addressing:

  • Interest in AI and motivation for applying
  • Academic background and extracurricular activities
  • Achievements, competitions, or projects (if any)
  • Learning goals for the AIr program
  • Future academic and career aspirations

All documents must be submitted in English or include certified translations.
